Mount olympus - October 19th, 2012

A hike that continues past the waahila ridge state trail or the kolowalu trail where the two meet! You will see a sign that says, "don't go past, trail not maintained" aka this is fun, so you should probably do it!

First do your research! This isn't a hike to take the young ones on, or a hike if you have never hiked before, it can be pretty challenging! There are some very narrow ridges, steep game over drops, high winds, and slippery clay mud, come prepared! Gloves, maybe even micro spikes if you wish, plenty if water and snacks! It can take anywhere from 4-7 hours depending on your capability! It took us 4 hours!

The first part of mount olympus is easy, it's when you get to the first clearing it starts to get real! It's a good hike though!

Watch your feet, where your stepping, and always keep your balance in check! My husband said I was down playing this hike from what I read, and I did, it was harder than I thought it'd be!

I'd rate this at intermediate, maybe 6 mikes round trip, in burned 2500 calories doing this!

Kalihi ice ponds - October 16th, 2012

This is a short little hike in kalihi valley, just off the Pali highway, it actually runs next to the highway! It's about a .75 mile hike each way, which is on a private road, there is limited parking, you cross a wooden bridge and take the fork in the road to the left side, and around a gate! Follow the road down and then you will head down a STEEP dirt path, aided by ropes, it's not difficult at all!

The falls are small and there is a pool to swim, if you are adventurous you can climb the waterfall to the left and there are another set of falls up there!

Nice quick hike w a nice ending!

Hamama and waihe'e falls - October 9th, 2012

Today Michelle and I went to hamama falls, which I've Ben to two other times, so we had planned on finding the second waterfall there off the trail called waihe'e falls, I was NOT prepared for what was to come lol

The hike to hamama was easy, and even the hike to waihe'e falls was easy, but the amount of mosquito and fruit flies from the strawberry guavas! OMG I was not loving it! I hate bugs, especially mosquito and fruit flies! I couldn't get out if there fast enough!

Also my ankle kept feeling like it was going to give out! So annoying, definitely was hurting after! We were out for two hours 20 minutes and burned like 1200 calories! Waihe'e falls is located about 100 yards before hamama falls, head down the hill near the banyan tree, and then follow the ribbon markers! Easy enough!

Mariners ridge - October 5th, 2012

So Michelle, Jen, and I did this hike on a Friday, it was a simple short, actually rather hot hike, it was pretty shaded but some exposed areas, some steeper up hill parts with roots, probably only 2.5-3 miles round trip, kid friendly and gorgeous views, I'd recommend this hike to anyone just starting out or looking for a kid friendly hike!

I had a decent calorie burn at abiut 800 calories, even and it took about 1 hour 45 minute round trip, we spent a good amount if time at the summit too

Hawaii Loa Ridge - October 1st, 2012

One more month only until my next surgery! Trying to do a hike a week! It's like I'm counting down to dooms day!

This ridge is pretty intermediate, it's about 5-6 mikes round trip, and I'd suggest some decent cardio skills, my partner this day found out the hard way :) I'm happy with myself, as it was hard, I didn't want to fling myself off the cliff after a big climb lol!

It was warm this day! Hawaii loa ridge is located in Hawaii Kai in a gates community, need Hawaii drivers license or military ID, parking is all the way at the top at a nice little park!

We started, views were gorgeous, but as we proceeded it started to cloud up, a little worried we turned around per summit, it still was a great hike, it's about a 2100 elevation climb I want to say total, maybe a little more, check out Stewart ball Jr., his write up in the hike is great, (hiking guide to Oahu)

Here are my pics

Olomana - September 12th, 2012
